New Covenant Trust Company Announces Sponsorship of the Speed Art Museum’s Exhibit of Medieval & Renaissance Treasures from the Victoria & Albert Museum
Jeffersonville, IN – January 16, 2008: New Covenant Trust Company, N.A., a part of the Presbyterian Foundation Group, will be the presenting sponsor of the Medieval and Renaissance Treasures from the Victoria & Albert Museum, London England, at the Speed Art Museum, Louisville, Kentucky. One of the most extraordinary exhibitions in the history of the Speed Museum, the Medieval and Renaissance Treasures is a spectacular collection of sacred and secular art that will never likely travel outside of England again. The exhibition will run January 22 through April 20, 2008.
This once-in-a-lifetime exhibition will present 35 rare masterpieces including a Leonardo da Vinci notebook. Drawn from one of the greatest collections of medieval and Renaissance works in existence, these mostly small-scale “Treasury Arts” were created principally for the church in the Middle Ages and for the cabinet and table of the wealthy collector during the Renaissance. Artists represented in the exhibition include Donatello, Veit Stoss and Giovanni Pisano. Other works include the largest and most splendid Limoges enamel reliquary casket of St. Thomas Becket, ivories made for the court of Charlemagne and the only known Byzantine ivory statuette of the Virgin and Child carved entirely in the round.
“The New Covenant Trust Company is proud to support the Speed Art Museum and this incredibly important and historical art exhibition,” said Bob Leech, Vice Chair and Chief Executive Officer of NCTC and President and Chief Executive Officer of the Presbyterian Foundation. “Our own rich history dates back over 200 years to 1799, which is young by European history standards, but we believe deeply in the preservation of the principles and values upon which our organization was originally founded. This collection of Medieval & Renaissance Treasures captures the essence of both spiritual and secular artistic expression during two of the most important eras in European art history, preserving the rich history of some of the most prominent artists of the times for future generations.”
